A New Life – A New Career

Work is what provides meaning and purpose to life

For many the concept of retirement comes with the vision that implies that you will shut down is simply not acceptable.  For many, retirement from work is equivalent to not living.  If you have been a productive employee all your life and somebody asks you what your dream retirement would be like, you may respond “to work”.  You could be one of those whose work is what provides meaning and purpose to life.

It is not fair for society to impose equivalent standards of retirement on everybody.  To suggest that to get pleasure from this time of life, begin sleeping till late morning, you need to take up fishing,  sit in a rocker and watch the day glide by bit by bit, or allow yourself to be transformed into a senior citizen would be equivalent to a sentence of life in jail with no chance for parole. Thus working is the thing that would give those golden years meaning and purpose.

Turn your dreams into a new career

You may be one that would still need to work into their retirement years as a result of not preparing for your retirement.  Nevertheless there some things you should do to shift to a retirement career that brings you satisfaction and extra money to get you through your senior years.what's next

You can get started early on a retirement side hustle to take you into those retirement years.  A jump-start project to possibly provide some additional income.  Often we realize that the work we are currently doing may be too physically demanding as we grow older, or maybe a change of scenery is in order.  Before you actually retire could be the best time to experiment with various interests or explore finding a part-time job at a local retailer or office.

Many times the talents and data you learned within the business world throughout your first career will transition you into a moneymaking consulting career later in life.  Think about the vendors who you may have dealt with in your previous position and approach them with the idea of representing them from a satisfied customer’s point of view.   The experience you gained at your former employer can transition to being a representative for your new employer.

Make money from a hobby

You may also have a hobby that can be turned into a money-making endeavor.  Things such as woodworking, pottery, painting among others can become a side business.  You may be good at setting up websites and contact small businesses in your area to either design their site or just provide periodic maintenance.  Many people have started cottage industries after retirement to provide ways to stay active and bring in extra income.

The ways you can create an extra income in your retirement years are only limited by your imagination.  And once you have a good new career going that you can continue well into years ahead, you won’t have many of the worries other retired people have.  You can enjoy the freedoms of a retirement lifestyle and make plenty of money at the same time.  And that’s a great combination.
